This is just a brief few jottings, because I am sure some of my comrades on the MV Sunrise will have some memories to share with everyone.Once Martin was bundled into Steve's truck we set off on the long journey to Scrabster to catch the ferry. In preparation for his stints behind the wheel Martin had brought along his Sat Nav for company. As we pulled onto the York outer ring road, the shouts from the rear of the car caught our attention. 'Thurso... Thurso... Anywhere!' was the cry as Martin attempted to persuade his Tom Tom to provide a suitable route for the adventure ahead. From the stories we heard of Thurso, and the strange wild life that roams the streets there, we remained hopeful that our navigational systems would steer us a true course avoiding contact with the natives. If you hear these words uttered worry... I mean worry! A number of people on the trip where there hoping to push diving range further by gaining depth progression, and deco experience as they dived the massive metal hulks that where the battleships of the German High Fleet. With these goals achieved successfully, and a number of signatures added to various members of the groups dive qualification books the week all to soon came to and end, and it was time to pack for the journey home. This is when we decided to push the range of Steve's fuel tank. As we rounded Inverness with the red fuel warning light on, the trip computer was giving a rather optimistic 30 miles range... and then as if in some cruel joke, just went to zero. Taking to the single lane highland wilderness to attempt to reach a suitable fuel station, using various methods of fuel conservation. The air conditioning was off, and gravity was used to full effect on the downhill stretches until a Tesco appeared ahead, we were okay, no pushing 3 ton of fully laden Warrior pickup! As if one attempt at pushing the good nature of the vehicle was not enough, as we approached York we pushed the range one more time for good measure! To see photo's from this trip visit the Excalibur Photo Gallery here. |
