Excalibur club member Graham (Carlo) Carling lost his flowing locks all in the name of charity. Carlo was famous in the club for his long curly hair which over many years had reached two feet in length. Excalibur's annual Christmas party provided the ideal opportunity for a change in hairstyle. “I had been thinking about cutting it off for some time, it seemed a perfect way to raise money for charity.” said Carlo.
Clippers in one hand large glass of wine in the other, the slightly less than sober hairdresser, cheered on by the equally inebriated party revellers, proceeded to relieve Carlo of his mane .
Through the kind support of friends, family, work-colleagues and his employer Carlo raised £750 for charity. £225 being donated to Excalibur, and £525 to Vision charity.

Scuba Divers recently plunged the murky depths of the River Ouse in York's City Centre to help clean up the river. The divers are all members of York based Excalibur Sub Aqua Club, a branch of the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC).
A dozen divers scoured the riverbed around Lendal Bridge, removing any materials hazardous to boats or the environment. Amongst other things the haul included an old bicycle, pushchair, a number of road cones, bottles and glasses, and an 8ft section of crowd control barrier!
“When you dive in British waters you soon realise the impact humans can have on the underwater environment”, said Excalibur Sub Aqua Club spokesperson David Leon. “As an active club based in York, the members of Excalibur Sub Aqua Club wanted to help towards cleaning up the City, the obvious area to focus our efforts on is below the waterline.”
Darren Starkey, the Environment Agency Senior Environment Protection Officer for the York area, said "The Agency welcomes the efforts of Excalibur Sub Aqua Club in cleaning the river bed of debris and drawing the public's attention to the need to care for the environment. The water quality of the River Ouse is classified as "good" in the City Centre, however the river receives large volumes of litter during the summer months. Any initiatives to clean up the river are to be encouraged. Members of the public can also help by disposing of litter responsibly."
