Hi I am Morgan Marsa Alam was a good holiday, I did swimming, chilling out, had my hair braided and lots more things! My favourite thing was diving in the sea the red sea.

In the sea I saw a octopus, porcupine fish, masked puffer fish, blue spotted ray, boxed fish, mackerel fish and two lion fish. On land however I saw a hermit crab and I picked it up and took it to the sea! Before the bus took us to the airport me and JP played table tennis, mum said he nearly had a heart attack. When dad went diving mum got a manicure and a pedicure. Me, mum and dad went on a camel ride it was fantastic. One last thing is I loved playing in the pool with people it was fun, the whole holiday was excellent.

So where do you start????
20 strong
15 of which were divers
4 none divers and our Morgan, itching to do her first sea dive and all bound for Marsa Alam in Egypt.

Well that was the plan up until I received a text from Tracey a couple of days before saying Kirsteen has had to pull out due to ill health.

I called Kirsteen and she unfortunately confirmed the worst. It was a crying shame to have to pull out so close to what was to turn out to be a fantastic trip.

When Dave offered to introduce club members rock climbing it was too good an opportunity to miss, so Steve and I set off to meet everyone in Hull at Rock city.  After kitting up in  a harness that would have confused a seasoned husky we donned climbing shoes, I have never ever ever worn something I was so glad to get off my feet by the end of the evening, having said that they don’t half stick to any surface.  Dave showed us how to rope up, knots are not my or Steve’s forte so lots of attention paid to this, I must say Dave was superb in both teaching us and then ensuring we didn’t manage to kill each other by not belaying properly.

The climbing was a real buzz, we started on level 4d, pick a colour and climb the knobbles, the hardest part was putting faith in your buddy on the belay line and letting yourself fall off once you’d got to the top (no idea why I bothered gripping the rope as that would plummet to earth at exactly the same rate as the rest of me if Steve didn’t remember what he’d been taught).

Cuddles & Cornflakes or Rib-tickling Jokes? Print E-mail

Last Sunday morning, it being one of the first really cold mornings of winter, staying at home for a lie in, cuddles, coffee and cornflakes seemed an appealing alternative to setting off through the freezing fog to do the BSAC Oxygen Administration Course in York. I knew I had a very busy day ahead of me. Three hours of lectures and three hours of practical for the oxygen course followed by an ocean diver lecture, a pool session and then the club for the monthly meeting. Companies like those I work for do not lavish training on freelancers like me, the last first aid course I went on was a “freebie” run by St. John’s ambulance ten years ago. I really didn’t know what to expect of this one.

A walk in the woods! Print E-mail

Anna, Ken’s friend, kindly offered to organise a Sunday walk for club members, having two dogs who need continuous exercise it was an opportunity not to be missed.  We all met up in the car park at Thornton-le-dale and walked into the countryside, it’s a varied walk taking you through farmland and on to forest trails.  After an hour or so we emerged at the Dalby forest visitor centre where we sat outside in sunshine enjoying something to eat and drink whilst Mike was kept amused answering 300 questions by someone running a satisfaction survey!

After that we set off on the second leg of the walk, still enjoying lovely autumnal sunshine, saying hello to a couple of friendly pygmy goats and resting on a park bench in imitation of the local Derby & Joan club.   What a nice way to spend a few hours, chatting to friends and enjoying beautiful countryside, even better the dogs were tired when we got home, for at least half an hour!
